BOSINGWA RE-JOINS TRABZONSPOR

Former Chelsea right-back who with the Blues won the UEFA champions league in 2011/12 campaign, Jose Bosingwa has re-joined Trabzonspor on a one-and-a-half year contract.

The Portuguese, who was released by the Turkish Super Lig club in 2015 following an injury, confirmed the news through the club’s Twitter account.

The 35-year old defender has struggled for fitness since he was released by the EPL defending champions, Chelsea in 2012. Jose Bosingwa was officially released by Trabzonspor in November 2015.

He and Trabzonspor made the news of his return to the club official on Twitter. Despite his relatively injury-ruined career, the former Portuguese international remains one of the most successful defenders in European football.

Preceding his arrival in England and west London, Chelsea, Bosingwa had spent five years at Porto.

He made over 100 appearances for the Portuguese club, and was a part of the team that won the Champions League in 2004. Playing under manager Jose Mourinho, he won four consecutive Portuguese Primeira Liga winner’s medals.

He joined Chelsea during the 2008 summer, after the European Championship, and was later joined at Stamford Bridge by the then Portugal manager Luiz Felipe Scolari.

Bosingwa featured 89 times in four years with the club but Chelsea supporters will always remember him from his involvement in the successful Champions League campaign in the 2011/12 season.

He was a key player in the semi-final second leg against Barcelona at the Nou Camp after coming on to replace injured Gary Cahill after just 12 minutes into the match.

He ensured things were kept tight and firm at the back and the Blues went on to draw 2-2 on the night and won the tie 3-2 on aggregate. Also, he won the Premier League once and the FA Cup three times with the Stamford Bridge dwellers.
