José Bosingwa career with Portugal National Team almost over
Former Chelsea defender José Bosingwa’s international career with the Portugal national team looked all but over after being left in the cold by Paulo Bento.
After a poor run of results, Bento departed the national team and was replaced by Fernando Santos. The former Greek coach has immediately recalled a number of players who were not included by Bento. This, first and foremost, includes Bosingwa, who won the Champions League in 2012 with Chelsea. Former Chelsea players like Ricardo Carvalho have also been brought back to the international fold.
Bosingwa’s spell in international football came to an end recently and he moved to Turkish club Trabzonspor in 2013. The 32-year-old is a regular atTrabzonspor and he has featured in 12 matches for the Turkish club in all competitions. His biggest test, though, will be coming in the friendly match against Argentina. The friendly is scheduled to take place at Old Trafford and is likely to feature big names like Lionel Messi and Angel di Maria. Bosingwa has the experience of playing against Messi when he was a Chelsea player. Despite being played out of position at left back, the Portuguese managed to keep Messi quiet back in 2009. Age may have caused Bosingwa’s game to go down since then, but he will have more experience to tackle players like Messi.
Carvalho is with French club Monaco, who are one of the French teams in the Champions League this season. After leaving Real Madrid recently, Carvalho became one of the first major signings for Monaco. Since he is a central defender, age has not made a huge difference to his game. The 36-year-old has been an ever present for Monaco in the league and in the Champions League. His experience has helped Monaco to move within one game of reaching the last 16 of the Champions League.
