LACK OF SUCCESSION PLANNING REASON FOR TERRY’S DEAL

Chelsea skipper John Terry was handed a one year deal after reports that the star player was set to leave the club this summer.

Reports now from London points to the reason that the club didn’t have a succession in place, hence the one year extension he got.

Chelsea and Real Madrid are among the top clubs that rely on players from other academies or established players to join their squad. The lack of planning for the team, mostly due to regular change in head coaches left the team with no future plans.

John Terry who is one of the oldest players in the team and a veteran in the English Premier League was forced to pair with various players at various points in the defence. He played with William Gallas before pairing up with Ricardo Carvalho. Gary Cahill is currently the successor to John Terry after his likely last season at Stamford Bridge. Cahill was picked ahead of Ryan Shawcross when the defence pairing of Terry with Portuguese left back Jose Bosingwa, Alex and Branislav Ivanovic suffered. Ivanovic had a dip in performance in the last season and there are doubts about his leadership skills.

There was David Luiz who had the flair on the pitch but lacked the real defensive prowess to coordinate the defence. The Brazilian, who currently with French Champions, Paris St. Germain was linked with a possible return but the speculation was quickly ended.

There’s also Kurt Zouma who was injured last season. Zouma has the ability to tame the attack of opponents but lacks the necessary Premier League experience. This is part of the reasons the club really wanted John Stones to join in the last campaign. With new manager, Anthonio Conte coming in, the team would have had a hard chance fighting back without stable leadership in the defence and the team as a whole. Conte was reported to have signed off on his contract extension as he hopes to buy time to stabilize the team.
